Video: Doctor Andres Gumban Brutally Killed in Bacolod City

Dr. Andres Gumban, 63 years old from Bacolod City was brutally killed in his house at Regent Pearl Subdivision in Barangay Alijis at 10:45 p.m. Thursday.

Bacolod police chief Senior Superintendent Ricardo de la Paz said Gumban, a wealthy pulmonologist, sustained 35 stab wounds on the neck, chest and stomach, his throat was found slashed and died at the scene of the crime.

Gumban's neighbor Jonathan Maniego said he heard a commotion at the house of the doctor, he went to the house to check and saw the suspects Fof Pascual Jr., 18-year-old, of Barangay Tadlong, Sagay City, and Neil Jhun Destriza, 16-year-old from Cadiz City.

He asked them to open the door but they refused. When he peeped through the window and saw bloodstains near the bathroom, he kicked the door open, drew his gun and ordered the suspects to drop to the floor.

Another neighbor arrived, and helped him restrain the suspects while they called the police.

Police Chief Inspector Levy Pangue said the doctor, who was wearing only shorts was in a fetal position in the bathroom.

The 16-year-old suspect said Gumban had a bladed weapon, entered the bathroom while he was taking a bath and sexually abused him. The 16-year-old said he fought back and stabbed the doctor repeatedly. Fof Pascual said it was the first time he met Gumban and he was at the living room watching television when the minor was stabbing the doctor.

An investigation showed Pascual is a suspect in the killing of a pregnant woman in Sagay City sometime in 2010, De la Paz said.

Meanwhile, De la Paz said they are also looking into the robbery angle as the doctor was wealthy and the killing could have been premeditated.

Pascual and the 16-year-old are both considered suspects in the stabbing.

the police have released a video of the killing of a 62-year-old doctor inside his home in Bacolod City last Thursday.

The video, taken via cellphone of one of the suspects, showed how Dr. Andres Gumban Jr. was hit by a rock at the back of his head by a 16-year-old suspect.

When Gumban fell to the floor, the suspect stabbed him multiple times then Pascual dragged Gumban’s body to a bathroom. The victim tried to escape but was overpowered by the two suspects.

The 16-year-old suspect focused the camera on the victim’s dead body before turning the camera on himself. The suspect then winked at the camera and grinned.

The cellphone video, which lasted for 5 minutes and 18 seconds, was submitted to a Bacolod regional trial court to be used as evidence.

The suspects admitted that they are illegal drug users and are callboys. The suspects, whom the victim met through social networking site Facebook, are facing charges of robbery with homicide or murder.
